Reiki is the most joyful thing I know, and I’d love to share it with you. The Japanese word ‘rei’ means something mysterious or sacred, and the word ‘ki’ can be translated as energy of the universe. Reiki, then, is the sacred energy of the universe – I like to describe it as intelligent, divine qi, or sentient love.

In practice, reiki is the laying on of hands to heal. For those who experience it, reiki is tremendously warm, relaxing, and transformative – this is powerful alchemical medicine that can work wonders in our lives. Like a really glorious chocolate mousse, the best way to understand reiki is…to experience it. Simply put, reiki is healing energy!

Reiki benefits everyone, and I encourage everybody to learn reiki to help themselves and their loved ones. Practitioners receive a sacred initiation called ‘reiju’ (attunement) that opens us to act as a ‘hollow bamboo’ for reiki energy. Once attuned, a reiki practitioner taps into reiki itself, and is able to heal without depleting their own energy. Whether we give reiki or receive it, we all benefit…and how wonderful is that?

I find reiki to be intuitive and intelligent. You may seek reiki to ease a physical imbalance, and find that your mental, emotional or spiritual path gain momentum as well. Reiki may surprise you – it’s life-changing, and it’s FUN!

One of the most beautiful aspects of reiki is that it is always beneficial, and supports our fundamental capacity to heal, and create full, joyful lives. Everyone can learn reiki, and everyone can receive reiki. If you’re reading these words, you’re already connecting with reiki… welcome!

What Does Reiki Treat?

Reiki supports every healing journey – from intense periods of transition, to cancer, to spiritual awakening, to folks who feel worn out and lost. Reiki works with every single healing modality out there, and is never contraindicated, whether you’re working with pregnancy, antidepressants, chemotherapy, acupuncture, talk therapy, etc. Literally, everyone benefits from reiki, which fills us with a deep sense of well-being and peace – no matter who we are, what we’re working on, or what’s happening. Simply, reiki is a particular vibration of love – and love is appropriate in every situation.

In addition to restorative and therapeutic effects, reiki helps with specific issues such as:

  • recovery from illness
  • rehab after surgery
  • depressions
  • grieving
  • immune disorders (HIV/AIDS)
  • releasing addiction
  • fertility issues
  • old triggers and patterns
  • insomnia
  • major life transition
  • healing trauma
  • clearing energies that aren’t yours
  • grounding
  • anxiety and stress
  • overall happiness, and recovering joy
What Does Reiki Feel Like?

Everyone experiences reiki a bit differently, and here’s what I’ve seen and learned in the last 14 years of working with the miracle of reiki, or sentient love…

Early in a treatment, reiki brings a deep sense of support, relaxation and calm, as our busy minds and tense bodies begin to relax. Although sensitivities vary, you’ll be aware of hot reiki hands. You may feel energy flowing through you, enter a dreamlike state, see colors, communicate with spirit guides or your own wise counsel, enjoy a catnap, or experience powerful shifts in your life that ripple into days and weeks to come. Some people ‘feel’ very little during reiki, and still notice effects like stress reduction and increased physical healing. Most folks feel amazing – peaceful, balanced, and happy.

Reiki is more – much more – than just feeling relaxed, although that’s an important part of the healing process. Simply slowing down can be miraculous, and allow our physical, mental, and emotional bodies to recalibrate and move to our own sense of equilibrium. Beyond the magic of feeling peaceful in the moment, I think one of the most exciting effects of reiki is what happens after the session – reiki has a way of aligning us with the people we need to meet, engineering situations in our outside lives that help us clear old patterns or fears, or helping guide us to changes in our lives that align us with our purpose, or why we came here.

After 14 years of being reiki, I know that reiki can totally transform a life… it’s simple, mysterious, and joyful. Like chocolate mousse, you’ve just got to experience it to really get it!

How Often Should I Receive Reiki?

People ask, “how often should I receive reiki?” It’s similar to meditating once for 10 minutes, or meditating every day for a month. Both experiences help us, and one changes our lives forever. Like meditation or movement arts, reiki is cumulative – the more we reiki, the better we feel. We recommend reiki treatment at least every two weeks as a core part of your regular self care routine. Being loving and kind to yourself is one of the great joys of living – you’re doing a great job!

We love reiki and healing arts more than anything in the world – thank you so much for visiting us here online. We believe that we are all here for three fundamental purposes: to be happy, to feel love, and to know our purpose, and we know that consistent reiki practice can help us achieve all three goals. We’re here, and we care about what happens to you – we can all follow and live our dreams…and so it is!
